Carnivale

"There's something about watching a woman handle a snake that gets a man downright percolated." The 1930s, a travelling carnival that's a little more than what it seems, a preacher who's a little more than what he seems. Doesn't sound all that, but believe us, it is. From the stunning opening credits to the fantastic scripts to the immaculate cinematography, this grabs you and doesn't let go. We're still having nightmares about the one where... no, we won't spoil it for you. But please, don't miss it.

That which does not kill me makes me stranger. Black leather, kinky sex and a fly caught in eyelashes. The most kick-ass animation ever. Sublime.

American Gothic

One of the darkest series ever to grace the screen, with a mesmerising perfomance from Gary Cole as Sheriff Lucas Buck (with a B). Is the Devil supposed to be this sexy? Naturally, cancelled after its first season.

Ultraviolet

This dark and mysterious series turned the whole vampire genre on its head. Styly, chilling and achingly cool, of course it didn't survive past its first series of six episodes. However, it has by some miracle been given a video and DVD release. Thank you, God.
